Advertisements for Myself
Actually, for my latest book, not me.
Two years ago I was asked if I would consider finishing a book about Oak Park, Michigan, a city, I would soon learn, that is like no other. Keith McClellan, a longtime political expert and consultant from Chicago, a smart, warm and funny man and the husband of the mayor, had done vast amounts of research and had been trying to write its history, but his kidneys betrayed him in 2022.
When I found out how many stories Oak Park had produced, I couldn’t say no. Well, the book is now published; It’s getting great reviews, and you are invited to a party and celebration Aug. 21, (see below) where I’ll talk a bit about the book and the fascinating place that is Oak Park, and also sell and sign copies.
By the way, none of the proceeds go to me; we’re donating all the money from sales to the Friends of the Oak Park library.
Hope to see many of you there!
Jack

Such a fine read; it weaves people and their stories against the larger backdrop of societal and economic change. Written so expertly that I didn’t notice I’d been reading four full pages without a photo, diagram or map — not even a section title. Honest discussion of tough racial and economic issues.
Thank you for this book.
I'm finding the book quite interesting, although I lived in Oak Park "only" from 1979 until 2020.
