Mad King George Wasn't Always Wrong
Why he was smarter than Donald Trump
Every elementary school kid knows, or at least knew in my day, that America became an independent nation after it rebelled against the tyrannical British King, George III.
Those who know a little more of their history know that by the end of the Revolutionary War, George was showing signs of the madness that would eventually totally incapacitate him for many years.
Actually, by contemporary standards, Ol’ George really wasn’t much of a tyrant; he was mainly stupid, pigheaded and neither knew nor cared about being diplomatic. But for all his faults, George sometimes saw things very clearly .
After the Revolution was over and America was recognized as an independent country in 1783, George III reportedly asked his American painter, Benjamin West, what Washington would do after winning independence.
West replied, “They say he will return to his farm.”
“If he does that,” the incredulous monarch said, “he will be the greatest man in the world.” Like nearly all rulers in his day, he couldn’t conceive of anyone giving up power voluntarily. But Washington did it twice, after the Revolution and again after serving two terms as president.
Wonder what George would have said of a leader who was legally obligated to give up power, who was voted out of office and then tried to refuse to go, staging a clumsy coup and getting people killed in the process?

If even ONE in Chump’s cabinet honored Washington’s Rules of Comportment…
But they only do lip service, never homage.
I'm my opinion, ol' King George was right. Washington is still the greatest man in the world and I wish more leaders could be like him.
