I think of the Baby Boom like a swarm of locusts. Those at the front consumed the most and benefited from the feast. Those of us at the back took whatever scraps were left and were never really part of the party.
I too grew up in the 60s, a time of hope and optimism. I watched the civil rights movement unfolding. We marched and helped end the Vietnam War. I was active in helping the momentous gains in women's rights! We had every right to be optimistic. We saw change on the bright hope of the horizon. We thought these rights were impenetrable, irreversible. It was thought anyone really could be president. Now 50 years later they are eroding these rights one by one. That optimism is replaced with dread over what our country is becoming. It feels like no amount of marching, dissent or protest will stop the mad dissent into fascism. The stakes are higher now. But we must keep trying. We cannot give up. And even though it is a much darker time and harder to keep chins up, we cannot obey in advance.
I’m wary of any notion of going back. But I suppose mojo would be good. We’ll get thru Trump but I do believe we are in a larger era. And if I’m around to see some end to it, I’ll know it’s happening when maybe a dozen amendments to the Constitution are added, plugging the holes so exploited in our time.
Three Big Chill Monsters who forgot that they got to work around a trip to Vietnam and had an energy shock free youth. They are still riding the wave.
Better said than Tom Friedman could in a million years

They will fall in the end. The question is what we will rebuild
